EXTENSION ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • The Department organized educational Tours at Mandarmani for 2nd   year Honours students and at Santiniketan, Patharghata for 2nd year General students.
  • The Department organized the following Seminar Lectures:
    • Topics: Retreating Glaciers of Himalaya Socio-Cultural life of “MALANCHA” tribe of Himachal Pradesh
      Speaker: Prof. Guruprasad Chattopadhayay, Bisva Bharati University
    • Topic: Philosophy of Geography
      Speaker: Prof. Joytirmoy Mukhopadhayay, Vidyasagar College, Kolkata
  • Wall Magazines were designed and hung up on ‘Indian Daily Weather Report’ and ‘Global Warming’
  • The Department organized Poster Exhibition on different fields of Geography like, Glacial Retreat, Flood Hazard, Bio-Diversity of Sundarban, Saline water Encroachment, Impact of Deforestation, Levels of Women Education & Impact of Migration in West Bengal, Poverty alleviation & Planning. Geo- Political Importance of Indian Ocean etc.
  • The Department organized a UGC sponsored National Seminar on “Resource Management and Sustainable Development” on 23rd and 24th September, 2011, in collaboration with Department of National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organisation, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
  • Weather Station has been installed at the Department.
  • Students of the Department participated in Youth Parliament.
